AI-KOMU Joins Lithuanian Gintaras Consortium for EU AI Gigafactory Bid

AI-KOMU, the European artificial intelligence infrastructure and technology company, today announces that it has joined the Gintaras Consortium in support of Lithuania’s bid to establish one of the European Union’s next-generation AI Gigafactories (AIGFs).
The Gintaras Consortium is being developed as a major Lithuanian-led initiative to position Lithuania and the wider Baltic region at the forefront of Europe’s emerging sovereign AI infrastructure ecosystem.
The partnership brings together Lithuanian and international technology, infrastructure, investment and research capabilities with the objective of developing a world-class AI Gigafactory capable of supporting frontier AI training, inference, fine-tuning and large-scale industrial AI deployment.
AI-KOMU will contribute its expertise in AI infrastructure, technology deployment, systems integration and the development of large-scale AI computing environments, supporting the Consortium in translating the technical vision into an operational, scalable and commercially sustainable AI Gigafactory.
The announcement comes following the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking’s launch of the formal AI Gigafactory procurement process. The EU initiative aims to establish up to seven AI Gigafactories across Europe, creating a new generation of sovereign AI infrastructure and strengthening Europe’s technological resilience, competitiveness and strategic autonomy. Building Europe’s AI infrastructure
AI Gigafactories are intended to provide the computing infrastructure required to develop and deploy the next generation of advanced AI systems. They will combine large-scale AI processors with high-performance networking, cloud and software platforms, energy-efficient data-centre infrastructure and AI-driven automation. (EuroHPC)

A Baltic platform for European AI
Lithuania has already established a strong foundation in European AI infrastructure, including the LitAI AI Factory, and has been actively developing a wider Baltic approach to advanced AI and high-performance computing. The Lithuanian Government has previously highlighted the strategic importance of cooperation between Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland in developing the region’s AI infrastructure. The Gintaras initiative builds on this foundation with the ambition of creating infrastructure capable of operating at a substantially greater scale.

From infrastructure to an AI ecosystem
The Consortium’s vision extends beyond the physical deployment of computing infrastructure.
The proposed Gigafactory is intended to support a broader ecosystem of AI developers, technology companies, researchers, universities, enterprises, start-ups and public-sector users, enabling access to large-scale computing resources for AI model development and deployment.
This approach is aligned with the EU’s objective of ensuring that AI infrastructure strengthens European industrial competitiveness while supporting technological sovereignty, resilience and responsible development of advanced AI systems. (European Commission)
AI-KOMU will work with the Gintaras Consortium and its partners during the bid-development process, contributing to the technical architecture, infrastructure deployment strategy, technology ecosystem and long-term scalability of the proposed facility.
Looking ahead
The formal EU AI Gigafactory procurement process was launched by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking on 30 July 2026, with proposals due by 12 November 2026. Successful projects are expected to be selected in early 2027, with deployment subsequently moving into construction and operational phases. (EuroHPC)
The programme is expected to mobilise substantial public and private investment across Europe. The European Commission estimates that the wider initiative could mobilise approximately €20 billion in private investment, alongside significant EU and Member State support. (Digital Strategy)
